Projects - Tanzania

The Ngelenge, Tanzania project is in collaboration with the Ngelenge Development Association (NGEDEA) to improve water supply, agricultural productivity and public health in Ngelenge and surrounding villages in rural southwestern Tanzania. The remote region lacks basic services of healthcare, transportation, electricity and adequate safe drinking water supply.

EWB became a project partner in 2004 to assist in fostering development in the area. Since then it has worked closely with NGEDEA and the local populations to develop and implement projects in the following areas:

Public Health Improvement

Water Resources

Agriculture

Energy

During the summer of 2008 we plan to accomplish a major development step by building a piped, potable drinking water supply. The distribution system is designed to pump water from one of the new 50m bore wells to two 15,000 gallon tanks located above the village and distribute this clean water through a pipe network to 17 tap stands to the four sub villages of Kivukoni, CCM, Maguland and Shuleni.

The estimated cost of the system is $100,000. Currently we have raised only $45,000 and we hope to reach our $100,000 goal by June 1st so that equipment and material can be bought and construction can begin during the summer months.
