Engineers for a Sustainable World - A nonprofit organization with a network of more than 3000 professionals and students working to reduce poverty and improve global sustainability. Every day, people around the world struggle to gain access to clean water, food and shelter for their children, and an education to build a better future. UC Berkeley and Stanford ESW chapters.

Foundation for Sustainable Development - FSD supports the efforts of grassroots development organizations in the developing world that are working to better their communities, environments, and the economic opportunities around them.

GRID Alternatives - GRID Alternatives works collaboratively with communities and local organizations to identify specific needs and to develop renewable energy solutions that are environmentally, socially and economically sustainable. Their vision of sustainable development centers on community involvement, and their focus and expertise lies in using renewable energy and energy efficiency to provide solutions to the challenges facing low-income individuals and families, in the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond.

Guatemala Healthcare Project - A program to create a self-sustainable healthcare system that educates and provides training in Spanish to the Mayan community of Pueblo Nuevo, Guatemala.  Training includes: Smoke Inhalation, Waste Management/Sanitation/ Hygiene, and Maternal Health/Nutrition.

KickStart - A non-profit organization that develops and markets new technologies in Africa (formerly ApproTec). These low-cost technologies are bought by local entrepreneurs, and used to establish highly profitable new small businesses. They create new jobs and new wealth and allow the poor to climb out of their poverty forever.

Northern California Peace Corps Association - NorCal is a nonprofit, volunteer organization affiliated with the National Peace Corps Association. NorCal supports a network of Returned Peace Corps Volunteers (RPCVs), former staff, their families and friends continuing the Peace Corps experience and ideals through local, national, and international activities

O2 Sustainable Design Network - An organization of designers and engineers who are interested in sustainability issues. We get together in the Bay Area roughly once a month for casual presentations and discussions about eco issues in relation to design. Visit their Yahoo Groups page to sign up for the mailing list.

Renewable and Appropriate Energy Laboratory (RAEL) - Based at UC Berkeley, RAEL focuses on designing, testing, and disseminating renewable and appropriate energy systems.

Spark - A non-profit organization that raises money for and awareness about women who are igniting global change in their own communities through acts of empowerment.

Structural Engineers Association of Northern California (SEAONC) Founded in 1930, SEAONC is committed to the advancement and incorporation of the state-of-the-art in structural engineering standards and practices through applied research, continuing education, and the promotion of professional relations among Civil, Structural, and Geotechnical Engineers. Membership in SEAONC is encouraged for anyone interested in the profession, seeking an opportunity to serve the public, share knowledge or ideas, or otherwise help shape the practice of structural engineering.

XAccess - Xtracycle Access Foundation makes load-bearing bicycles possible for people who need them most yet can least afford them.  We help create economic opportunities by allowing people to move themselves, their goods, and their families, using human power.
